Description

Classic comfort food done right—juicy beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom gravy. Perfect for weeknights or when you just need a cozy plate of deliciousness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 yellow onion, divided
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce, divided
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 8 oz. mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Mince half the onion and thinly slice the other half.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, minced onion, breadcrumbs, egg, 1 Tbsp Worcestershire, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for about 5 minutes per side until browned. Set aside.
  4. Add sliced onion and mushrooms to the skillet with a pinch of salt and pepper. Sauté until soft and golden.
  5. Add butter and flour, stir for 2 minutes to form a paste. Pour in beef broth and remaining Worcestershire. Stir and simmer until thickened.
  6. Return patties to skillet, spoon gravy over, and simmer 5 more minutes until fully cooked.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Notes

Double the broth, butter, and flour if you want extra gravy—trust us, you’ll want more for your mashed potatoes. This dish stores well for meal prep and reheats like a dream.
