Description

These Crockpot Beer Brats are slow cooked until perfectly tender, simmered in beer with soft onions, garlic, and butter for a rich and cozy comfort food classic that is perfect for gatherings and easy family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 raw bratwurst
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 10 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1 quarter teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 quarter cup butter
  • 1 bottle beer, 12 ounces

Instructions

This easy slow cooker method lets the brats gently simmer in a flavorful beer broth while the onions soften and the butter melts into a rich base. The result is tender, juicy bratwurst with deep savory flavor and almost no hands on work.

  1. Place half the onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Add the brats in a single or double layer.
  3. Add the remaining onions, garlic, black pepper, and butter.
  4. Pour the beer over the brats.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours without lifting the lid.
  6. Serve hot on buns with the cooked onions or with classic sides.

Notes

  • Use broth instead of beer for a non alcoholic version.
  • Add bell peppers or jalapenos for more flavor.
  • Broil the brats briefly after cooking if you want extra browning.
